What you’re working towards

Build an original song text around a repeated chorus and a clear emotional change. The worked result was written for this guide; it is not a recording of an AI run.

Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Open a text assistant and try the example

For a concrete starter route, open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Sign in if that service requires it for your access. You can also use another text assistant you already have. Copy the entire prompt below (the instructions to paste), including the sample input, into its message box and send it. No upload or image generation is needed. Expect two verses, three identical choruses and a two-line bridge. The wording may differ from the example; the constraints should not. If it only explains the task, ask it to produce the finished result using the supplied input.

Your starting prompt
Write original lyrics in this order: Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus. Each verse and chorus has four lines; the bridge has two. Repeat the chorus exactly each time. Use everyday language and no imitation of a named artist. Provide lyrics only.

Use this complete made-up practice input:
Fictional narrator: An adult taking a first evening shift as a museum caretaker.
Verse 1: The huge quiet rooms feel unfamiliar.
Verse 2: Familiar footsteps and small routines make the building feel welcoming.
Chorus: A repeated image of leaving one light on connects the two states.
Bridge: The narrator recognizes that belonging grows through showing up.
Tone: Warm and simple, without grand claims. No romance, danger, supernatural events or claims about real museum work.
Required concrete images: stone stairs, brass key, one light.
This is a lyric-writing exercise, not generated music or a promise that the words fit a melody.

Return the finished result. Keep it fictional and do not add claims about real people, products or events.
02

Check, correct and save

Read the response beside the original input. Count four lines in each verse and chorus and two in the bridge. Compare all three chorus copies exactly. Check that Verse 2 adds familiarity rather than repeating Verse 1’s uncertainty. Find stone stairs, brass key and one light; read aloud for awkward phrases. If a check fails, paste the correction prompt below in the same conversation. Check the revised result yourself, then copy the version you want into your own notes or document.

Your starting prompt
Check your previous result against this original input:

Check these requirements one by one:
- Count four lines in each verse and chorus and two in the bridge.
- Compare all three chorus copies exactly.
- Check that Verse 2 adds familiarity rather than repeating Verse 1’s uncertainty.
- Find stone stairs, brass key and one light; read aloud for awkward phrases.
Quote each problem, explain the smallest repair, and return a complete corrected version. If there is no problem, say which checks you applied. Do not claim that your own review proves quality or audience response.

Optional: use your own material

Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below and replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with fictional speaker, situation, emotional change, images and exclusions. Use material you own or may use and leave out private details. The output limits written in this prompt stay in force; change a limit here too if you want a different one. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of written result with your new material. Check it against this new input and these limits, not the sample’s names or numbers. If it differs, describe the exact mismatch and ask for a complete correction before saving.

Your starting prompt
Write original lyrics using my new brief below in this order: Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus. Each verse and chorus has four lines; the bridge has two. Repeat the chorus exactly. Use everyday language without imitating a named artist. Return lyrics only; do not claim music or a recording exists.

If an essential detail is missing or two requirements conflict, ask me before filling the gap.

Optional: improve the result

Fit a rhythm you supply

Use your own measured line rhythm rather than pretending a lyric already has music. Keep the first version so you can compare the change. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.

Advanced prompt
After I paste a rhythm guide showing the number of spoken syllables I want in each line, revise the lyric to fit it. Ask for the guide first; do not invent a melody. Mark uncertain syllable counts for my spoken check.
Use the original input and result in this conversation. If either is missing, ask me to paste it before continuing.
Show, then try

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Worked example written for this guide; it is not a recording of an AI run.

Verse 1
I count my steps on the stone stairs
The hall is wider after dark
A brass key rests inside my hand
I stop beneath the entrance arch

Chorus
Leave one light on in the hall
Let its circle meet my feet
I can learn this place by walking
One more evening, one more street

Verse 2
I know the board that answers back
I know which window holds the rain
I hang my coat beside the doorway
And take the same slow stairs again

Chorus
Leave one light on in the hall
Let its circle meet my feet
I can learn this place by walking
One more evening, one more street

Bridge
A place becomes a place I know
Each time I come and turn the key

Chorus
Leave one light on in the hall
Let its circle meet my feet
I can learn this place by walking
One more evening, one more street

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • A repeated chorus should be identical unless you deliberately ask for a final variation. Check the copies.
  • Written rhythm does not prove singability. A real melody and a sung rehearsal are separate steps.
