Turn a personal brain dump into next actions
Convert mixed intentions into actions, questions, waiting items and someday items without inventing deadlines.

What you’re working towards
Convert mixed intentions into actions, questions, waiting items and someday items without inventing deadlines. The worked result is a written example for practice; the AI steps have not been tested.

Make a start
One step at a time.
3 steps
Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.
Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.
01
Open a chat and paste the example
Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.
Your starting prompt
Using the complete made-up personal notes above, make the four requested lists. Keep each letter A–F exactly once. For vague intentions, propose one small next question rather than a whole project. Label any proposed action as a suggestion. Preserve the Sunday plan and the no-date items.
02
Check the specific result
Count six lettered items across the four lists. B must retain Sunday; D must stay out of this weekend; C must not acquire a follow-up deadline. Check that the assistant does not turn F into a registration. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.
Your starting prompt
Recheck your four lists against A–F in the original input. Show any missing or repeated letters, invented dates or commitments. Correct only those errors and keep optional suggestions clearly labeled.
03
Try it with your own example
Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.
Your starting prompt
Sort every note below into the groups I request. Keep each original label exactly once and preserve dates and no-date items. For a vague intention, suggest one small clarifying question rather than inventing a project. Label proposed actions as suggestions. Ask if the grouping rules are missing.
Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.
MY INPUT
[PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE]
Optional: improve the result
Reduce the list to one next action
Once the categories are right, choose a single starting action using your own energy and time limit. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.
Advanced prompt
I have five minutes and want to start with a physical action, not research. Choose one eligible Do next item, explain the choice in one sentence, and leave all other items unchanged.
Show, then try
See the shape of the result.
This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.
01 / The starting point
Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.
Made-up personal notes from one fictional adult; today is an undated Saturday.
A. I want to learn enough about birdwatching to decide whether to try it; no deadline.
B. Put the borrowed jigsaw puzzle by the door for a return already agreed for Sunday.
C. I am waiting for a friend to tell me which book title they recommended; they promised no date.
D. Sort my travel souvenirs sometime, but not this weekend.
E. Find my blue notebook; I have not looked yet.
F. Maybe join a walking group; I am not ready to commit.
Rule: use four lists: Do next, Clarify, Waiting, Someday. Preserve every letter exactly once. Add no deadlines, purchases, messages or appointments.
Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.
Do next
B. Put the borrowed puzzle by the door. Existing return plan: Sunday.
E. Check the usual notebook shelf first. This is a proposed first search action, not a claim about its location.
Clarify
A. What would I need to know to decide whether to try birdwatching? Start with the kind of experience I want and whether I already have suitable options.
Waiting
C. Recommended book title from friend; no promised date.
Someday
D. Sort travel souvenirs, after this weekend; no date set.
F. Consider a walking group when ready; no commitment.
Nothing here schedules a reminder or contacts anyone.
These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.
Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.
!
A few things to watch for.
A polished list can quietly turn a wish into an obligation. Keep tentative words such as maybe.
An AI cannot know where the notebook is. Treat a search location as a hypothesis.
