Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Open a text assistant and try the example

For a concrete starter route, open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Sign in if that service requires it for your access. You can also use another text assistant you already have. Copy the entire prompt below (the instructions to paste), including the sample input, into its message box and send it. No upload or image generation is needed. Expect four panel descriptions, one short caption and a continuity checklist. The wording may differ from the example; the constraints should not. If it only explains the task, ask it to produce the finished result using the supplied input.

Your starting prompt
Write a four-panel comic script. Describe one drawable moment per panel, including framing, visible action and any exact text. Keep the order and ending supplied. Use no speech balloons and only one caption, in panel 4, of eight words or fewer. Add a continuity checklist. This is a script, not a generated comic.

Use this complete made-up practice input:
Characters: One adult artist and one ordinary house cat.
Setting: A simple desk with a pencil and two blank sheets of paper.
Story: Panel 1, artist prepares to draw on sheet A; sheet B is beside it. Panel 2, cat sits on sheet A. Panel 3, artist uses sheet B to sketch the seated cat. Panel 4, cat moves onto the sketch on sheet B, leaving sheet A free.
Tone: Gentle visual humor. No harm, anger or magical behavior.
Visual rule: Keep sheet A on the left and sheet B on the right throughout. The cat's movement must be understandable. No detailed background or named artist style.

Return the finished result. Keep it fictional and do not add claims about real people, products or events.
02

Check, correct and save

Read the response beside the original input. Count four panels with one visible moment each. Track A on the left and B on the right in every panel. Check the single caption has no more than eight words and no speech balloons appear. Confirm the result is a drawing script, not a claim that images exist. If a check fails, paste the correction prompt below in the same conversation. Check the revised result yourself, then copy the version you want into your own notes or document.

Your starting prompt
Check your previous result against this original input:

Check these requirements one by one:
- Count four panels with one visible moment each.
- Track A on the left and B on the right in every panel.
- Check the single caption has no more than eight words and no speech balloons appear.
- Confirm the result is a drawing script, not a claim that images exist.
Quote each problem, explain the smallest repair, and return a complete corrected version. If there is no problem, say which checks you applied. Do not claim that your own review proves quality or audience response.

Optional: use your own material

Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below and replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with characters, setting, four ordered story moments, continuity and tone limits. Use material you own or may use and leave out private details. The output limits written in this prompt stay in force; change a limit here too if you want a different one. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of written result with your new material. Check it against this new input and these limits, not the sample’s names or numbers. If it differs, describe the exact mismatch and ask for a complete correction before saving.

Your starting prompt
Write a four-panel fictional comic script from my input below: one drawable moment per panel, with framing, visible action and exact text. Every required feature must fit its stated crop. Preserve order and ending. Use no speech balloons and only one final-panel caption of eight words or fewer. Add a continuity checklist. This is a script, not a generated comic.

If an essential detail is missing or two requirements conflict, ask me before filling the gap.

MY INPUT
[PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE]
Optional: improve the result

Try a silent version

Test whether the visual sequence carries the joke without words. Keep the first version so you can compare the change. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.

Advanced prompt
Remove the final caption and revise only framing or facial expression so the four-panel story still reads. Preserve sheet positions and events. Explain what a future artist should check with a reader who has not seen the script.
Use the original input and result in this conversation. If either is missing, ask me to paste it before continuing.
Show, then try

See the shape of the result.

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice. All people, places and events are invented.

Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Worked example written for this guide; it is not a recording of an AI run.

Panel 1 — Preparation
Framing: Medium view of the desk, artist visible from the shoulders down.
Picture: The artist holds a pencil over blank sheet A on the left. Blank sheet B lies on the right. The cat is approaching the left edge of the desk.
Text: None.

Panel 2 — An unexpected model
Framing: Same view.
Picture: The cat sits squarely on sheet A. The artist's pencil pauses above the desk. Sheet B remains blank on the right.
Text: None.

Panel 3 — A workaround
Framing: Slightly closer, with both sheets still visible.
Picture: The cat stays on sheet A. On sheet B, the artist is finishing a simple outline sketch of the seated cat.
Text: None.

Panel 4 — The next sitting
Framing: Widen the first view enough to include the artist’s face and both sheets.
Picture: The cat now sits on the sketch on sheet B. Sheet A is empty again. The artist looks between the two sheets with a small smile, pencil still in hand.
Caption: “An expert in covering the subject.”

Continuity check: A stays left; B stays right. B changes from blank to sketched only in panel 3. The cat moves from A to B between panels 3 and 4. The only caption has six words. No speech balloons are required.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • Several actions inside one panel can be impossible to show clearly. Choose the decisive visible moment.
  • A joke can fail if props switch positions without explanation. Track the two sheets explicitly.
