Prepare a repair-enquiry call card

Organize supplied symptoms, model details and questions for an owner-led repair enquiry without diagnosing the fault.

What you’re working towards

Organize supplied symptoms, model details and questions for an owner-led repair enquiry without diagnosing the fault. The worked result is a written example for practice; the AI steps have not been tested.

Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Open a chat and paste the example

Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.

Your starting prompt
Turn the full owner notes above into a concise private repair-enquiry call card. Keep observed symptoms separate from unknowns, preserve the exact three attempts and model label, include all four requested questions, and leave answer spaces blank. Do not diagnose, suggest a repair, call anyone or authorize work.
02

Check the specific result

Check that the card says three attempts rather than every page. All four questions must remain unanswered, and the model name must be described as a label rather than evidence that a service supports it. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.

Your starting prompt
Check the call card against the owner notes. Remove any invented diagnosis, repair instruction, price, availability or commitment. Preserve the three-attempt observation, the no-repair-attempt fact and all four unanswered questions.
03

Try it with your own example

Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.

Your starting prompt
Make a private repair-enquiry call card from my notes below. Keep observed symptoms, model label and already-tried actions separate from unknowns. Include every question I supply and blank answer spaces. Do not diagnose, suggest a repair, call anyone or authorize work.

Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.

MY INPUT

Optional: improve the result

Prepare a neutral observation log

Record existing observations without instructing the owner to provoke a fault or manipulate a mechanism. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.

Advanced prompt
Make a blank log for observations the owner already has: Date, What I was doing, What happened, Whether it repeated, and Photo reference if already available. Do not ask for new tests, opening the mechanism or any repair action.
Show, then try

See the shape of the result.

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.

Made-up owner notes for a repair enquiry. Object: a manual typewriter labelled Harbor M2, an invented model. Observation: the carriage stops near the middle of the page on three attempts; the owner first noticed this on 3 October. It is not known whether the issue happens with every page. The owner has not opened the mechanism or attempted repairs. Goal: ask a repair shop whether it inspects manual typewriters, what information to bring, whether an inspection charge applies, and how it provides an estimate before work. No appointment, price or service availability is confirmed. Make a private call card, not a message to send. Do not diagnose or suggest mechanical work.

Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.

Repair-enquiry call card
Opening: “Hello, do you inspect manual typewriters? Mine is labelled Harbor M2.”
Observed problem: “The carriage stopped near the middle of the page on three attempts. I first noticed it on 3 October. I do not yet know whether it happens on every page, and I have not opened the mechanism or tried repairs.”
Questions to ask
1. Is this a type of item you can inspect?
2. What information or photographs would you want before arranging anything?
3. Is there an inspection charge, and what does it cover?
4. Will you provide an estimate for my approval before any repair work?
Notes to fill in: Inspection offered ____; information requested ____; stated charge ____; estimate/approval process ____.
No cause, price, booking or repair commitment is assumed.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • A likely-sounding diagnosis can steer an enquiry away from the observations a technician actually needs. Describe what happened.
  • A question about estimates is not permission to approve a fee or repair work.

What has been checked?

No dated source review recorded.
Included files

AI workflow
Not run in a recorded consumer-AI workflow.
