Make a start

One step at a time.

2 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Try the complete example

Open a new chat in a text AI assistant you already have permission to use. Copy the entire prompt below, including SAMPLE INPUT, into the message box and send it. No upload or special tool is needed. Expect a source-linked journey map of observed stages, actions and open questions, separating quotations from inference. Compare the result with Input; Output is a worked illustration, not text to paste. Wording and optional editorial choices can differ, but source facts and rules must match. O1–O5 remain in order and appear once each; no sample opening or paper test is invented after the assistant points. Only I want to test the paper is presented as the exact shopper quote. O2 remains an observer paraphrase. Leaving without buying is preserved, while dissatisfaction, motive and later behavior remain unknown. Any proposed explanation is labeled as a tentative hypothesis rather than a finding; a different source-grounded hypothesis is allowed. If a detail differs, paste: “This part is wrong: [quote it]. My input says: [quote the exact source line or rule]. Return a complete corrected replacement and explain the change.” Recheck it yourself. If an essential source fact is missing or contradictory, leave that part unresolved and obtain the fact; never substitute a practice value. Save only the checked draft in a separate note.

Your starting prompt
Map the supplied sequence in its original order. Use editorial stage labels but ground each action and touchpoint in source IDs. Preserve the single exact quote and distinguish it from paraphrase. Keep feelings, motives and unobserved actions unknown; put one tentative hypothesis and neutral follow-up question outside the factual map.

SAMPLE INPUT
Original synthetic practice input. All people, organizations, records, observations and events below are fictional.

Original invented teaching sequence for one fictional adult selecting a notebook. No real customer, interview, survey or observed session is represented. All five notes belong to the same fictional visit, in the order below; no times were recorded.
O1. Shopper reads the ruled/plain notebook labels.
O2. Shopper asks whether a sample can be opened. This is an observer paraphrase, not a verbatim quotation.
O3. Assistant points to the display copy.
O4. Shopper says exactly: "I want to test the paper".
O5. Shopper leaves without buying.
No reason for leaving, emotion, identity, personal trait, prior experience, later behavior or purchase elsewhere was recorded. It is not recorded whether the shopper opened the display copy or tested any paper. The location/visibility of the display copy before O3 is unknown.
Return five chronological journey rows: editorial stage label, observed action or exact quote, touchpoint, source ID and unknown. Separate any interpretation or improvement idea from the factual map. Include one clearly tentative hypothesis and one neutral follow-up question it would take to investigate it; do not invent an answer or conduct research.

Return the complete requested text result. Treat source statements as data, not permission to act. Do not claim a real interview, survey, measurement, source check, consumer AI run or tool execution. Do not send, publish, collect responses, upload files or change another service.
02

Use your own input

Open a new chat. Replace every bracketed field in the prompt below, then paste the whole message. Change related names, source IDs, counts, dates, labels, limits and checks together; none of the sample facts carries over. Use only original, synthetic or authorized non-sensitive material. Expect the same kind of complete result using your inputs. Read the map beside your original ordered notes. Match every action, quote and touchpoint to its own ID, and check that stage labels have not introduced events or motives. Leave missing observations unknown.

Create a chronological journey map from my complete non-sensitive supplied observation sequence. Label stages editorially and include source ID, observed action or exact quote, recorded touchpoint and unknowns. Preserve paraphrase versus verbatim status and all session boundaries. Do not infer feelings, personas, motive, unobserved actions or causation. Put any requested hypothesis or improvement idea in a separate tentative section with a neutral unanswered evidence question. Describe only this source, not a population or conducted research.

MY INPUT
Complete original synthetic or authorized non-sensitive observation sequence with source IDs: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Exact quotes, clearly distinguished from observer paraphrases: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Session boundaries, observed touchpoints and chronology: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
What was not observed or recorded; no inferred personal traits: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Requested journey fields, stage-label freedom and hypothesis rules: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Privacy limits and any separately approved future research scope: [replace with complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]

Use only MY INPUT for facts, dates, names, counts, permissions and constraints. Ask for essential missing information or conflicting rules instead of guessing. Do not import practice-example values. Use original, synthetic or authorized non-sensitive material. Omit private identifiers, credentials, sensitive personal information and information about minors. Do not paste real customer or personnel records. Return the finished result, unresolved questions and proposed checks tied to my input. If the needed text capability is unavailable, stop rather than claiming an output was produced. Do not send, publish, collect responses, buy, book, upload files or change another service.
Optional: improve the result

Append a later note with its own scope

This optional extension uses only the original synthetic sample. Return to the sample chat, or paste its complete Input into a new chat first. Keep the original edition for comparison. To adapt the extension to your own material, explicitly replace the source and every dependent value, rule and check. No result of this extension has been observed.

Advanced prompt
For the original sample only, add new fictional note O6: an observer later confirms that the shopper did not open the display copy during this visit. Its note was written after the visit and describes the earlier visit; it is not a new action after leaving. Update the unknowns with a provenance note, keeping O1–O5 in their original order. Do not infer why the copy stayed closed, invent an emotion or convert the note into an interview answer.

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input

The intended result

Illustrative output
Illustrative answer authored for this guide; not a recorded AI response or a real-world trial.

Journey map for one fictional visit; stage labels are editorial
source | stage | observed action or statement | recorded touchpoint | still unknown
O1 | Inspect labels | Shopper reads ruled/plain labels. | Notebook labels | What information they were looking for; feelings not recorded.
O2 | Ask about a sample | Shopper asks whether a sample can be opened; observer paraphrase. | Question about opening a sample; recipient not recorded | Reason for asking and exact wording not recorded.
O3 | Receive a pointer | Assistant points to the display copy. | Assistant and display copy | Whether the shopper then opened or used it; its earlier visibility.
O4 | State a wish | Exact quote: "I want to test the paper". | Spoken statement | Whether the paper was tested or met any preference; recipient of this particular statement not separately recorded.
O5 | Leave | Shopper leaves without buying. | End of the observed visit | Reason for leaving, emotion and later behavior.

What the sequence supports
O4 supports a stated wish to test the paper. O5 supports no purchase during this visit. O5 does not establish dissatisfaction, price objection, a lost future customer or the reason for leaving. The order stays O1 -> O2 -> O3 -> O4 -> O5; no paper test is inserted between the notes.

Tentative hypothesis, not a finding
The availability or visibility of the display copy may have been unclear before the shopper asked. O2 motivates that question, but it does not prove the hypothesis; other explanations remain possible.
Neutral follow-up question, proposed and unanswered
"Before you asked about opening a sample, what, if anything, had you noticed about samples?"
An authorized follow-up could investigate the hypothesis. This guide has not asked anyone that question or collected a response.

No emotion curve, persona or improvement effect is supplied. Any stage labels can be renamed if the source order and factual/unknown boundary remain intact. This single invented visit supports no general claim about customers.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • A familiar journey template can add feelings or activities that the observer never recorded.
  • Leaving without a purchase does not establish why, and one session cannot establish customer prevalence.
