Make a memory cue that does not distort the facts

Create a memory sentence for an exact ordered list and state what the cue does not explain.

What you’re working towards

Create a mnemonic for an exact ordered list and state what the cue does not explain. The worked result is a written example for practice; the AI steps have not been tested.

Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Open a chat and paste the example

Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.

Your starting prompt
Use the exact ordered list and mnemonic definition above. Create one eight-word memory sentence with initials M V E M J S U N, map each word to its planet, add an eight-position blank recall line and explain the cue’s limits. Add no astronomy facts beyond the supplied list.
02

Check the specific result

Count exactly eight cue words and compare their initials with M V E M J S U N. Check both M entries map in the right order and that the sentence’s imaginary content is not presented as factual. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.

Your starting prompt
Check the cue word count, all eight initials and the exact mapping to the supplied planet order. Correct any missing or extra word and keep the mnemonic explicitly separate from factual explanation.
03

Try it with your own example

Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.

Your starting prompt
Make a memory sentence for my ordered list below. Use exactly one word per list item, with the same initial letter and order. Show the word-to-item mapping and a blank recall line with the same number of positions. Explain that this cue helps recall the list, not understand its subject. Add no subject facts beyond my input.

Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.

Optional: improve the result

Choose a cue that sticks for you

Personal usefulness matters more than the assistant’s favorite sentence. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.

Advanced prompt
Offer two more eight-word memory sentences with the same initials and no added astronomy facts. Keep the mapping explicit. Ask me to choose the easiest to remember, then give me only the eight blank positions for a recall attempt.
Show, then try

See the shape of the result.

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.

Made-up learning exercise using a supplied factual list. Memorize these eight planet names in this exact order outward from the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. A mnemonic is a memory cue, such as a sentence whose first letters match a list. Make one original eight-word sentence with initials M V E M J S U N, show the word-to-planet mapping, and include a blank recall line. Do not add a ninth planet, distances, sizes or other astronomy claims. The cue should help order, not explain orbital science.

Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.

Memory sentence
Merry Visitors Enjoy Making Jam, Sharing Unusual Nectar.
Mapping
Merry → Mercury
Visitors → Venus
Enjoy → Earth
Making → Mars
Jam → Jupiter
Sharing → Saturn
Unusual → Uranus
Nectar → Neptune
Recall without looking
1 ____; 2 ____; 3 ____; 4 ____; 5 ____; 6 ____; 7 ____; 8 ____.
Limit: the sentence helps remember the supplied order. Its words do not describe the planets, their sizes, distances or motion. The repeated M initials still require remembering Mercury before Mars.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • Remembering the sentence is not the same as understanding the topic. Use a separate explanation for meaning.
  • Repeated initials can still be confused; test recall of the actual names.
