What happened
Google Research announced Deep Review’s public release on October 14, 2026. It expands its Paper Assistant Tool into document feedback for areas including design, legal and financial work. Google reports opt-in pilots on more than 16,000 manuscripts; these were separate from official conference review.
Access and privacy
The launch announcement offers two complimentary reviews per week worldwide, with a Gemini API key enabling higher limits and API integration. Initial inputs are PDF and plain text; multi-file support is planned. Google says uploads are not used to train or improve its models and are retained for one year for display in the interface.
What to do with this
Editorial suggestion: Try a public or redacted draft first. Check the service’s current terms before uploading confidential material or connecting a billed API key. Treat findings as questions to investigate and verify against original evidence. For consequential legal or financial decisions, involve a qualified human reviewer.
